Doctrine & Covenants
Section 126
Jehovah addresses Brigham Young directly, declaring that the season of extended separation from his family has satisfied its requirement — the offering is accepted. The release from itinerant sacrifice is not a reduction of duty but a reordering of it: the labor of sending the word abroad continues, while stewardship over the household is now the primary charge. The word 'acceptable' carries the weight of a completed oblation; Jehovah has weighed the toil and pronounced it sufficient. The covenant with the family unit is here affirmed as the foundation from which further proclamation flows.
1
Dear and well-beloved brother, Brigham Young, verily thus saith the Lord unto you: My servant Brigham, it is no more required at your hand to leave your family as in times past, for your offering is acceptable to me.
2
I have seen your labor and toil in journeyings for my name.
3
I therefore command you to send my word abroad, and take especial care of your family from this time, henceforth and forever. Amen.
