Doctrine & Covenants
Section 13
John the Baptist, speaking as a resurrected being holding the keys of the Aaronic Priesthood, confers that priesthood upon Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery by the laying on of hands in the name of Messiah. The conferral carries three specific keys: the ministering of angels, the gospel of repentance, and baptism by immersion for remission of sins. The authority is declared permanent on the earth until the sons of Levi offer an acceptable offering again in righteousness — a Mosaic type still awaiting its latter-day antitype, anchoring this restoration moment inside an unfinished prophetic arc.
1
Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth, until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness.
