Doctrine & Covenants
Jehovah speaks directly to David Whitmer, issuing the same harvest call given to Oliver Cowdery and Hyrum Smith before him — the field is white, the sickle is ready, and the call to reap is itself the credential of calling. The chapter anchors eternal life as the greatest gift of God and ties its reception to endurance and covenant obedience. Verse 8 frames the prayer pattern precisely: ask the Father in the name of Jesus Christ in faith, and receive the Holy Ghost — the witness who enables testimony. Verse 9 is Jehovah's self-identification: Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, creator, light that darkness cannot contain. Verse 10 names the apostolic direction of the fulness — from Gentiles to the house of Israel — and places David Whitmer within that movement as an assisting servant.
