Part 1
A fragment of the Day of Atonement ritual preserved among the Dead Sea Scrolls records the high priest sprinkling the bull's blood on the mercy seat — eastward, seven times — and then, once atonement is completed for the House of Holiness, the tent of meeting, and the altar, presenting the live goat. The two movements together enact the full Yom Kippur type: the blood of the slain covers the holy things, and the living goat carries what remains outward. Both acts are required; neither alone completes the atonement. Leviticus 16 is the anchor; Hebrews 9 reads the type forward into Christ's singular fulfillment.
