THE BOOK OF HAGMENI
Chapter 1
Premium narration
1
Hagmeni, son of the shipbuilder Hagoth, opens his record by testifying to his father's account and the miraculous deliverance on the river Akish. He describes how the Nem established a righteous nation in the Land Northward, particularly the temple-city of Mentina, while neighboring Nephites fell into pride, stripping the forests and ruining the land for profit until the Akish itself diminished. While quarrying stone, the Nem discovered Jaredite tombs containing records, which they adopted as their own repository.
2
Hagmeni recounts abundant spiritual gifts among his people, especially healing through herbs. In his eighty-sixth year of the judges, Christ appeared in the temple and gave him the sign of a day, night, and day without darkness in the southern sky. The Nem instituted an annual seven-day celebration anticipating the Lord's coming.
3
Samuel the Lamanite, himself a Nem from the northern plains, later sojourned among them, prophesying the destruction accompanying Christ's death and exhorting the Nem to remain steadfast. Hagmeni closes warning his descendants to forsake worldliness.
