THE BOOK OF HEINMET

Chapter 5
Premium narration
1
Heinmet, forty-two years into his service as high priest and nearing the end of his life, writes a sober confessional record. He recounts how the Nem, watching the turmoil of the Land Southward and the gulf cities, fortified their cities, centralized their populations, and raised a standing army to preserve their peaceful way of life. He now perceives this very preparation as the seed of their ruin: armies require hierarchy, consume the labor of others, train men to violence and rank, and operate under laws at odds with civil order, breeding internal strife and frightening their weaker neighbors into hostility.
2
He laments his own pride, having taken his prophetic visions and gifts as license to trust his own counsel rather than continually petitioning the Lord. He warns readers against relying on the arm of flesh even when blessed with visions or angelic ministry. He mentions Mormon and young Moroni laboring amid Nephite wickedness, foresees the coming war sweeping northward, and counsels the Nem to disband their armies, scatter into villages, and hide from the combatants to be preserved.
