THE BOOK OF SHIMLEI

Chapter 1
Premium narration
1
Shimlei opens his record by tracing his lineage back through Hagmeni, who served alongside Captain Moroni, and through the seafaring Hagoth whose vessel was lost in the West Sea. He establishes the chronology of his people, dating events from the Savior's visit to Mentina some eighty years prior, and notes that his father Manti lived to one hundred twenty-one years, having beheld Christ's face. Elected by the council to succeed Manti as high priest, Shimlei recounts how he delayed marriage to serve his father, then sought out Almana, granddaughter of Alma and daughter of Sabel, in the city of Corianton, where he had gone to study its records.
2
He praises Almana's spiritual gift of walking and conversing with the Savior, crediting her presence for his own selection as high priest. Now seventy-two and aged, he names his seven children, rejoices in his grandchildren, and proclaims himself the most blessed among the Nem of Mentina.
