THE BOOK OF SHIONI AKEK
Chapter 10
Premium narration
1
Shioni Akek recounts being elevated to the seat of high priest among the Nem of Nespelem in recognition of leading his people safely out of Mentina into the north country. Though the population celebrated this as a great achievement of Common Consent, he himself takes no pride in it. The people began greeting him with an inclined head and a hand upon the breast, a gesture he found uncomfortable lest it create castes.

To prevent inequality, he adopted the same greeting toward everyone, and it spread as a custom shared among all and offered also in prayer to the Lord, His Father, His Mother, and through the Holy Ghost in the name of the Peacemaker. The gesture became a token of Zion: inclined head for unity of mind and common ownership, hand on breast for governance by Common Consent. He teaches that the Law of Consecration is the fullness of the gospel, whose breaking forfeits stewardship and salvation.
