Moroni explains the history of the writings given to the brother of Jared: the Lord forbade their disclosure until after the crucifixion, which is why Mosiah preserved them sealed. Following Christ's appearance to the Nephites they were made known, but with the people's apostasy Moroni is now commanded to bury them again along with the interpreters. These records contain the unparalleled vision granted on the mount, withheld from the Gentiles until they repent and exercise faith comparable to that of the brother of Jared.

Christ Himself then speaks through the record, warning that those who contend against or deny His word are accursed. He affirms His power over heaven and earth, identifies Himself as the Father, light, life, and truth, and invites both Gentiles and Israel to rend the veil of unbelief through a broken heart. He promises that John's Revelation will then be unfolded, and commands repentance, baptism, and faithfulness unto exaltation.
