THE SECOND BOOK OF MORONI

Chapter 3
Premium narration
1
Moroni records the procedure followed by the disciples, here identified as elders of the church, when conferring the offices of priest and teacher. The ordinance began with prayer offered to the Father in the name of Christ, after which the officiating elders placed their hands upon the candidate's head. The wording of the ordinance is preserved: the recipient was ordained in the name of Jesus Christ to the specific office, and charged to preach repentance and the remission of sins through Christ, sustained by faith endured to the end.
2
The chapter notes that ordinations were administered according to the spiritual gifts and divine callings recognized in each man, and that the authority by which the elders acted was the power of the Holy Ghost dwelling in them. The brief account thus establishes both the verbal formula and the priesthood pattern for setting apart lesser-office ministers.
