THE SECOND BOOK OF SAMUEL (THE LAMANITE)

Chapter 11
Premium narration
1
Samuel resumes the account of Corianton and Isabel. When Corianton returned to Zarahemla from missionary labor, he discovered that Isabel, whom he had supported in his absence, had been driven from the city by persecution and was near starvation. Enraged at his father and the people, he took her into the Land Northward, where they gathered scattered peoples and founded the nation in which Samuel now writes.
2
Corianton, however, never spoke to Alma again. Alma, learning he had unwittingly driven them out by trusting rumors, surrendered the high priesthood and the records and walked barefoot into the wilderness, where Samuel believes he died of grief. Samuel rejects legends that Alma was translated, explaining the nature of translated beings such as the Three Nephites, who cannot marry or beget children.
3
He draws lessons: fathers, sons, prophets, and saints must judge by the Spirit rather than rumor, conscience, or hero-worship, never making idols of fallible leaders.
