THE SECOND BOOK OF SAMUEL (THE LAMANITE)
Chapter 16
Premium narration
1
Samuel continues his prophetic warning to the Nephites from the wall, declaring that unrepentance will leave their houses desolate and bring terrible suffering upon mothers, the pregnant, and nursing infants when no refuge can be found in the day of flight. He explains the paradox of divine love: the Lord has chastened the Nephites precisely because He cherished them as a chosen people, while the Lamanites, long hated for the wicked traditions inherited from their fathers, have now received salvation through Nephite missionary labor. Samuel testifies that most converted Lamanites walk uprightly under the law of Moses, labor tirelessly to convert their kin, and—having buried their weapons—would rather be slain than break their covenant.

Because of this steadfastness, the Lord will lengthen their days, and in the latter days, despite scattering and affliction, He will remember mercy and restore them to the knowledge of their Redeemer. The unrepentant Nephites, however, face utter destruction.
