THE SECOND BOOK OF SHI-TUGO
Chapter 3
Premium narration
1
Shi-Tugo recounts his northward expedition by ship along the western coast of Bountiful, hugging the shoreline to avoid the fate of Hagoth's son, who had been swept beyond recovery into the open sea. Forced occasionally out of sight of land by adverse winds, the party initially missed a large bay, mistaking its inland salt waters for a separate sea. After backtracking and entering the bay's mouth, weak and contrary winds compelled them to disembark on its eastern shore.

Shi-Tugo organized exploration parties going north, south, and east, while another assessed the fishery. The eastern interior proved hospitable and promising for settlement, while the coastal strip remained barren; the bay itself teemed with fish, including very large ones yielding oil. Returning south, a tempest drove them far north, where they encountered Nephite survivors from Hagoth's son's lost voyage.

These men reported that Hagoth's son chose to remain on a distant island with his wife and people, irrecoverably separated from the mainland.
