In the fortieth year after the Nephite destruction, Moroni discovers in the Mentina archives a Jaredite abridgment that proves spiritually useful to the Nem and to Nephite refugees in Elak Kowa, who find it easier to contemplate another fallen people than their own war traumas. He produces ink-rolled cylinder books for portability, then returns to Cumorah to add Ether's abridgment to the sealed plates. Reflecting on the custom of leaving extra plates blank, Moroni recounts being moved by the Spirit to add further writing for a future Gentile flock.

He prophesies extensively about the last days: Gentiles will dominate the earth, descend into bloodshed surpassing all prior wickedness, yet a small flock among them will be drawn by familiar spirits from the dust to the sealed record delivered through an imperfect prophet. Grafted Gentiles and the Lehite Remnant will together establish Zion, calling themselves disciples of the Peacemaker. He closes marveling that Nem faith, by laying down weapons under Heinmet's direction, turned the Lamanites away.
