A Prayer of Sanctification from the Father Upon His Servant and His Work, Offered at the Kirtland Temple
Chapter 1
Premium narration
1
O God, the Eternal Father, who reigns in the heavens above and in the earth beneath, In the name of Thy Son, Jesus Christ, we gather here in solemn assembly, at this sacred ground where Thy power was once made manifest, even the Kirtland Temple, a house sanctified by Thy word and dedicated for Thy divine purpose.
2
We bow before Thee, seeking Thy face, and humbly supplicating Thy will, that Thou mightest hearken unto our cries this day, and remember the covenants made unto Thy servants of old.
3
We acknowledge before Thee, O Lord, that Thy servant Joseph was given the fullness of the priesthood through visitations from Thee and Thy holy messengers—even Moses, Elias, and Elijah—who conferred upon him the keys of the gathering, the sealing power, and the patriarchal order for the redemption of Zion and the salvation of the just.
4
Yet, O Lord, in sorrow we recognize that by 1841, as spoken in Thy word (D&C 124:28), thy people lost that which was given, and Thy glory departed from among them, for they did not fulfill all that was required of them.
5
And now, in this final hour of the last dispensation, we stand before Thee as two witnesses, seeking to set the stage for that which was lost to be restored, even the fullness of the Holy Order, the keys of the Kingdom, and the power of godliness in its fullness, that Zion may arise and that Thy work may go forth in power before the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
6
Therefore, O Jehovah, we ask: one, let the heavens be opened unto us. Let the veil be rent, that angels may again ascend and descend upon this place, and that those whom Thou hast appointed—even Elias, Elijah, Moses, John, Peter, James, and John—may return to restore and set in order all that is required.
7
Two, send Thy Holy Ones to confer the fullness once more. Let those who hold the everlasting priesthood minister unto us as they did unto Joseph, that we may receive from their hands the keys that shall prepare the way for Zion to be redeemed.
8
Three, establish again the Holy Order among Thy people, that a righteous branch may rise up, a pure people, clothed in power from on high, who will bear Thy name and Thy priesthood in its fullness, that Zion may be established and never fall again.
9
Four, consecrate this Temple once more. Though it stands in the hands of men, let it be sanctified in the eyes of heaven, that Thy presence may return, and that this sacred ground may again be a place of revelation, where the Ancient of Days may minister and where the remnant of Thy people may be gathered.
10
Five, bless us with Thy Spirit and Thy witness. If we are unworthy, make us worthy. If we are lacking, make us whole. Sanctify us that we may stand in Thy presence, and receive of Thy glory and Thy power, that we may bear it forth to the elect who are waiting to be gathered.
11
And now, O Lord, we dedicate ourselves this day, to be Thy servants in this great and final work, to bear the keys and powers of the fathers, to prepare the way for the return of Thy Son, and to establish the foundations of the Kingdom that shall never again be taken from the earth.
12
We seal this prayer upon this land, in the name of the Holy One of Israel, the Great Jehovah, and in the name of Jesus Christ, The King of Zion and the Lord of the whole earth. Amen and Ahman.
