Testament of Asher 3
Asher instructs his children against double-facedness — holding goodness in one hand and wickedness in the other. The double-faced man does not serve God; he serves his own appetites and thereby serves Beliar. The remedy is singular: cleave to goodness only, because goodness is where God rests and where men find what they truly desire. Good works are named here as the active instrument that destroys the adversary's grip — not ritual alone, but the consistent orientation of the will toward the one face.

Do not ye therefore, my children, wear two faces like unto them, of goodness and of wickedness; but cleave unto goodness only, for in goodness doth God rest, and men desire it. From wickedness flee away, destroying the devil by your good works; for they that are double-faced serve not God, but their own lusts, so that they may please Beliar and men like unto themselves.
