Testament of Judah 4
Judah recounts a military campaign in the south, more severe than the battle at Shechem, in which he and his brothers pursued a thousand men, slew two hundred and four kings, scaled the wall, killed two more kings, and liberated Hebron along with all the captives those kings had taken. The chapter is unadorned military memoir — Judah narrating his own valor and the cooperative strength of the tribal band. No prophetic pattern is invoked; the text functions as a record of the sons of Jacob as a fighting force securing the land of their inheritance.
1
And in the south there befell us a greater war than that in Shechem; and I joined in battle array with my brethren, and pursued a thousand men, and slew of them two hundred men and four kings. And I went up against them upon the wall, and two other kings I slew; and so we freed Hebron, and took all the captives of the kings.
