Chapter 1

The covenant renewal at Sinai and the divine command to build the holy sanctuary — God speaking in the first person, declaring the rebuilt eschatological temple, the courts of holiness, and the dwelling-place of His Name.

1Behold, I make a covenant. I shall do marvels before all thy people, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation. All the people in whose midst thou art shall behold the work of the Lord — for terrible is that which I shall do in thy midst.

2Take heed unto thyself of all that I command thee this day. Behold, I shall drive out before thee the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. Take heed unto thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitant of the land into which thou comest, lest he be a snare in thy midst.

3Thou shalt break down their altars; thou shalt burn their idols with fire. Thou shalt not bring an abomination into thy house, lest thou become accursed. Thou shalt utterly detest it, and utterly abhor it; for it is a thing accursed.

4Thou shalt build for Me a sanctuary; thou shalt set it apart unto Me; thou shalt dwell with Me there for ever. I shall hallow My sanctuary with My glory; for I shall cause My glory to dwell upon it, until the day of creation, when I Myself shall create My sanctuary, that I may establish it for Myself for all the days, even according unto the covenant which I made with Jacob at Bethel.

5And the house which thou shalt build shall be in length seven hundred cubits, and in breadth seven hundred cubits, foursquare unto the four sides thereof. The breadth of the wall thereof shall be seven cubits round about. The height of the wall thereof shall be such that it riseth up perfectly. There shall be three gates in each of the four walls thereof — one toward the east, and one toward the south, and one toward the west, and one toward the north.

6And the houses round about the gates shall be set apart unto the priests, the sons of Levi, and unto the heads of the tribes — that they may dwell there in the season of their service. The names of the gates shall be after the names of the twelve tribes of Israel: the gate of Levi shall be in the east; the gate of Judah, with the gate of Levi, in the east, on the right hand; and the gate of Reuben, between the gate of Judah and the corner. From the south corner the gate of Simeon, and after it the gate of Issachar, and the gate of Zebulun.

7On the western side the gate of Gad, and after it the gate of Asher, and the gate of Naphtali, in the western corner. From the corner of the north, the gate of Joseph, and after it the gate of Benjamin, and after it the gate of Dan.

Chapter 2

The festivals of the new covenant calendar — the Passover, the Feast of Weeks, the festival of new wine, the festival of new oil, the wood offering, the day of atonement, and the eight-day Feast of Booths.

1On the fourteenth day of the first month, between the evenings, ye shall offer the Passover of the Lord. And ye shall sacrifice it before the evening of the day, and shall offer it in the place which I shall choose to set My name there. And it shall be eaten in that night within the courts of My sanctuary.

2On the morrow ye shall offer a meal offering of fine flour mingled with pure oil, and a wave offering of the firstfruits before Me. The priest shall wave the offering before the Lord; and after that, ye may eat of the new grain. Ye shall do no servile work upon that day.

3From the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days, even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath; and ye shall offer a new meal offering unto the Lord. This is the Feast of Weeks, when the firstfruits of wheat are brought before Me.

4From the day on which ye shall bring the firstfruits of wheat shall ye number fifty days more — and that day shall be the festival of the new wine. Ye shall present unto the Lord the firstfruits of the wine of the vintage; the priests shall offer it according unto the precept; and ye shall rejoice that day before the Lord.

5From the day of the new wine shall ye number fifty days more — and that day shall be the festival of the new oil. Ye shall offer the firstfruits of the oil; and the priest shall pour it upon the altar; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord on that day.

6And on the day after the new oil, even six days hath the wood offering. Each tribe of Israel shall bring the wood for the burnt offerings continually, every tribe in its appointed turn. And the priest shall arrange the wood upon the altar, that the fire of the Lord may continually burn.

7And on the tenth day of the seventh month is the day of atonement. Ye shall afflict your souls; ye shall do no manner of work; and ye shall make the offering of atonement, even the offering for sin, that the priest may make atonement for you, that ye may be cleansed from all your sins, and may stand before the Lord throughout the year.

8On the fifteenth day of the seventh month is the Feast of Booths. Seven days shall ye dwell in booths; and on the eighth day shall be a holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work. It shall be unto you a sabbath of solemn rest. Ye shall rejoice before the Lord seven days; and on the eighth day ye shall add to your joy, that ye may give thanks for all the harvest of the year.

Chapter 3

The law of the king — that he shall not multiply silver and gold, nor wives, nor horses; that he shall keep this law before him; and that the elders of the council shall be at his side continually.

1When thou comest into the land which I give thee, and dost possess it, and dwell therein, and shalt say: I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are about me — thou mayest indeed set a king over thee, whom the Lord thy God shall choose. From among thy brethren shalt thou set a king over thee. Thou mayest not put a foreigner over thee, who is not thy brother.

2Only he shall not multiply horses unto himself, neither shall he cause the people to return unto Egypt to multiply horses. Neither shall he multiply wives unto himself, that his heart turn not aside; neither shall he greatly multiply unto himself silver and gold.

3And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book — out of that which is before the priests the Levites. And it shall be with him; and he shall read therein all the days of his life — that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, that he may do them.

4He shall not multiply unto himself wives. He shall not take any other wife to her — only she shall be with him all the days of her life. And if she die, then shall he take unto himself another wife, of his father's house, of his clan.

5He shall not pervert judgment, neither shall he take a bribe. He shall not turn aside the judgment of the poor of My people. He shall judge the people with righteous judgment. He shall not desire a field, or a vineyard, or any possession that is not his own. He shall not covet anything that is his neighbour's.

6Twelve princes of his people shall be with him; and twelve of the priests; and twelve of the Levites — who shall sit with him together to give judgment, and to give counsel concerning the law. He shall not turn aside from their counsel to do anything in pride.

7He shall not go out unto the battle until he hath enquired of the Urim and Thummim before the Lord. By the word of the Lord shall he go out, and by the word of the Lord shall he come in — he and all the children of Israel that are with him. He shall not go alone, lest his heart be lifted up.

8If he do all these things, his throne shall stand fast over Israel for ever; he and his sons after him shall reign in righteousness, and the Lord shall be with them. But if he do them not — his throne shall not be established; and his sons shall be cut off from the kingdom; and the Lord shall raise up another whom His soul shall choose.

9Glory be unto the Lord, the giver of the law, the builder of the sanctuary, the king over all the kings of the earth. Forever and ever. Amen.
