Chapter 1

The Father, the Mother, and the Son — the holy book of the great invisible Spirit, set forth by the great Seth and preserved by the unshakable race.

1The holy book of the great invisible Spirit, the Father whose name cannot be uttered. He came forth from the heights of the perfections; even the Light of the light of the aeons of light. He is the Light of the silence and of the foreknowledge of the Father; the Light of the Word, who came forth in the silence.

2From the bosom of the Father came forth the great Mother, even Barbelo, the male virgin. She is the womb of the All; she is the dwelling-place of the eternal ones.

3And from the Father, in the silence, by the Mother in the bosom, came forth the Son — even the Self-Begotten, the Christ, the Logos.

4And from the Self-Begotten came forth the four great Luminaries — Harmozel, Oroiael, Daveithai, and Eleleth — that they might be the dwelling-places of the holy ones in the four orders of the Pleroma.

5And in the first Luminary, Harmozel, was placed Pigeradamas, the heavenly Man, the head of the unshakable race.

6And in the second Luminary, Oroiael, was placed Seth, the son of Pigeradamas, the father of the great race.

7And in the third Luminary, Daveithai, was placed the seed of Seth — even the holy ones of the four hundred thousand.

8And in the fourth Luminary, Eleleth, were placed the souls of the children which had been born in the cosmos — that they might be drawn upward in the day of their visitation.

9And the great invisible Spirit blessed Seth, and made him a god in the second aeon of light. And Seth begat his seed; and the seed was set apart from the powers of the world.

10Then said Seth: Father, by Thy will I have begotten this seed. By Thy will, watch over it. By Thy will, deliver it from the powers in the day of their persecution.

11And the Father said: Be not afraid. I shall preserve thy seed. I shall send unto them the great angels — even Yesseus, Mazareus, Yessedekeus — to baptize them in the living water. They shall not be lost; they shall not be defiled; they shall not be carried away into the cycle of birth and death.

12And in the latter days I shall send My Beloved, the Christ — even Him that is in the form of the Self-Begotten — and He shall be born of a virgin, and shall live among men, and shall die for the sake of the seed, and shall rise again, and shall draw them all unto Himself.

13And then shall the unshakable race be gathered. They shall come up out of every nation. They shall be sealed with the five seals. They shall be admitted into the bridal chamber. They shall behold the Father; and they shall be one with Him for ever.

Chapter 2

The hymn of the holy ones — the praise of the Father, the Mother, and the Son, in the high places of the Pleroma.

1And the holy ones in the high places gave praise unto the great invisible Spirit, saying:

2Holy art Thou, holy art Thou, holy art Thou, O great invisible Spirit. Holy art Thou, O Father unbegotten. Holy art Thou, O Self-Begotten Son. Holy art Thou, O Mother of the All.

3Holy is Pigeradamas, the heavenly Man. Holy is Seth, the seed of the Father. Holy are the four Luminaries — Harmozel, Oroiael, Daveithai, and Eleleth — pillars of the holy of holies.

4Holy are the seed of Seth, the unshakable race. Holy are the holy baptizers — Yesseus, Mazareus, Yessedekeus — that wash the elect in the living water.

5Glory be unto Thee, O Father — even unto Thee, the Father unbegotten, the Father of all the aeons. Glory be unto Thee, O Mother — even Barbelo, the womb of the Pleroma. Glory be unto Thee, O Son — even Christ, the Logos, the firstborn of the Mother.

6Glory be unto Thee in the silent place. Glory be unto Thee in the spoken place. Glory be unto Thee in the place above; glory be unto Thee in the place below. Glory be unto Thee in every aeon. Glory be unto Thee for ever and ever.

7These are the holy hymns of the great Seth — that he sang in the high places, that he gave unto his children, that he preserved in the books of the heavenly tablets.

8And these are the names of the rulers and powers, that the children of light may know them, and may pass them in the day of ascent: the seven powers of the seven heavens, and the seven angels of the seven aeons of the lower world. They shall question the soul; she shall answer in the name of the Father; and they shall let her pass.

9Then said the great Seth: This book did I write — and I sealed it with the seal of the Spirit; and I hid it in the holy mountain Charaxio, that it might be preserved unto the consummation, and that the children of the seed in the latter days might find it, and might be instructed by it.

10Eugnostos the blessed wrote it down, in the joy of his heart, in the language of God. Now the angel of the great Light hath given me power to write these things; and I am Gongessos. I have set them down upon a high mountain. I have inscribed them upon a stone of remembrance. I have hid them in a sure place.

11Whosoever shall read this book, blessed is he. Whosoever shall write it out, more blessed is he. Whosoever shall keep its commandments, most blessed is he. He shall be of the unshakable race for ever.

12Glory be unto the great invisible Spirit. Glory be unto the Mother Barbelo. Glory be unto the Self-Begotten Son. Glory be unto the four Luminaries. Glory be unto the great Seth, and unto his seed, the unshakable race. Forever and ever. Amen, amen, and amen.
