The Holy Ghost
chapter · continuous
Chapter 1
I have pondered on the writings of Moroni, as he completed in the holy writings admonished by his father Mormon by him to complete the holy writ for future generations that we, their children, might have wherewith to look for the writings which are written for our understanding, if we should have the Holy Ghost to be our guide. Indeed, Moroni makes it clear, unto our understanding, that the Holy Ghost at the command of the Father, are the things written for this time, even that, the sealing of such writings are confined to those who become sanctified thereby, having achieved a level of understanding that the more mysterious truths might be revealed by the same personage of the Godhead. If it be that we desire to know of the truths written and desire to know of the fulness of the truth, it is then our desire raised in prayer unto the Father, with real intent that the Holy Ghost shall manifest the truth unto us and even that we shall receive the truth of all things.
In accord with this truth realized, I sought for a greater understanding of the Holy Ghost, and the Father was gracious and kind unto me to receive such marvelous truths beyond the understanding of man, even they who profess to know the truth and give credence that they are the mouth piece of God in the earth, they have less than what is required of God in fulness to have the Holy Ghost.
My father Abraham said: "And, finding there was greater happiness and peace and rest for me, I sought for the blessings of the fathers, and the right whereunto I should be ordained to administer the same; having myself been a follower of righteousness, desiring also to be one who possessed great knowledge, and to be a greater follower of righteousness, and to possess a greater knowledge, and to be a father of many nations, a prince of peace, and desiring to receive instructions, and to keep the commandments of God, I became a rightful heir, a High Priest, holding the right belonging to the fathers. It was conferred upon me from the fathers; it came down from the fathers, from the beginning of time, yea, even from the beginning, or before the foundation of the earth, down to the present time, even the right of the firstborn, or the first man, who is Adam, or first father, through the fathers unto me. I sought for mine appointment unto the Priesthood according to the appointment of God unto the fathers concerning the seed."
Then it becomes clear based on what is written that faith cometh because of a belief in God, and because of faith, hope is made manifest in man to demonstrate greater faith thereby attaining a pure love of Christ in all things, and repentance comes as a fruit of godliness, and then cometh the Holy Ghost to give gifts of the spirit and the pureness of the sealing power to those who are sanctified in the belief and obedience they have demonstrated to God.
The Holy Ghost is a spiritual personage, a member of the Godhead, very much misunderstood in godly obligations towards man, being an emissary and having the responsibility ordained upon him to emulate the light of Christ upon all men, to the secular world, many call this duty conscious - the conscious of man - or in the restored gentile church it is called the light of Christ that enables man to find truth; the Holy Ghost also brings upon man the gifts of God, to many it is considered the gifts of the Holy Ghost unto man that righteousness might overcome the darkness of the adversary that rules this world as his kingdom, such gifts in righteousness of bringing man to God unto repentance to do the will of the Father is truth, otherwise it is an imitation of the dark world, and this truth is the gospel as preached by the Savior in the book of Third Nephi to the remnant people; and the Holy Ghost also has the sealing power of God the Father that he is given power and authority from the Father, ordained of the Father, in the pre-mortal existence to seal all actions of man on this earth as in heaven towards God that demonstrates man's faith and works performing the will of the Father through accepted covenants and ordinal actions agreeable and accepted of God; such is the Holy Spirit of Promise that opens the gate to the strait and narrow, leading a man unto eternal life; this action of sealing power is not concoction of a secular belief based on hearsay and a belief that man is given the works of God and that God is no longer involved in his works; this is in accord with what is written on the subject matter in Third Nephi as written by Nephi at the command of the Savior.
As I pondered on this truth, which is a mystery unto men, the spirit of the Lord came unto me, I saw him as a man, a holy personage, and I saw the heavens opened unto me, and I saw the pre-existence of man in spiritual form; I saw all the spiritual children of Heavenly Father gather around him, listening attentively as Father taught them concerning godliness and godhood to come, or that of becoming like unto him. This time period was of no importance to me, but it gave me to know and understand that the preparations done before the earth was created in spiritual form for man was in a time not comprehensible to mortal man for all things are present before God. And this is the reckoning of God's time in accord with the plan in infancy for us in our pre-mortal beginning.
There was such excitement and eternal joy that filled the kingdom of Heavenly Father at that time that all creation stood still and took note of the beginning of the spiritual off-spring of God taking further steps, by faith, to do the will of the Father that he might be glorified on earth. Spiritual children, off-springs of God, grew in stature and in knowledge of truth developing great faith, while some were slow and were distracted, therefore, they were not as valiant unto the order of God seeking the faith and knowledge requisite of spiritual nobility for the work to come forth.
The spirit children that were in God's presence on that marvelous morning, the beginning when the plan was laid forth by the Firstborn Son, there were some most like unto Heavenly Father, to these the spiritual children gave obedience and were further instructed by them, for these were the first born among many of God's spiritual off-spring, these were the most noble because of their faith and great works, having demonstrated great obedience and great faith having performed much work.
The spirit told me that I was one of them, for thus I had inquired of the spirit of the Lord; I was instructed and reminded that I was to come forth in this time period of the which I am now in, the new beginning, the commencement of the times of Israel. I saw fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; I saw my father Joseph, and the other patriarchs whose names are found in the scriptures; I saw Elijah, Elias, Isaiah, Jeremiah and even Lehi with his sons stood among the noble ones. I saw Moses, unto whom many of God's spiritual off-spring did give obedience; it were as if he found his place with Joseph, my father having a conversation of the report for the which great peace should be published among the seed, even the remnant of the seed; I saw Nephi and Jacob conversing with Alma, Mormon and Moroni, and the 12 disciples to be chosen of Christ for the branch broken-off, but to be remembered in the last days; I saw all the prophets of the Jaredites numbering 12, in much preparation and conversing with other great and noble ones; I saw prophets of the lost ten Tribes of Israel and the 12 apostles of the Jewish Nation; yea, I even saw Paul, though short in stature, stood out among many with him for he likewise had great faith and knowledge of the workings of the Father; and I was given to see much more, even, John who was to be beloved of Jesus who should remain on the earth until his second coming; and I saw many others who were to accomplish a great work of grace in the name of the Savior on the earth in righteousness who where of literal seed, even those of gentilic descent, who by grace should serve, and I marveled at such an assemblance of nobility before God.
I saw such grand glory and truth radiating in a time set and such was the light onimpotent emanating from God's throne, which light filleth all of creation. There were those who had great knowledge concerning the eternal ordinances to be given unto man in mortality that by strict obedience should reclaim themselves through the grace of God; there were those who had great knowledge concerning the workings of God and the report laid forth to guide man through the times of their earthly existence, such knowledge was given them by what is recorded in the book of commandments that should guide all of creation; there stood among those who would give of themselves in sacrifice for others, though this attribute is godly given to all true followers of the Son of God, and they did so, because they understood the promises given to the sons of God and covenants made thereby; there were those who had great knowledge concerning the sealing powers of God, and unto what end these sealing keys committed would conclusively guide the mortal man unto immortality; there were those who manifested great understanding of the priesthood power and authority of God the Father wherein earth was to be created and to be framed for they truly understood the language of God from eternity to eternity, even beyond the place where God did dwell; there were those who with great understanding and great knowledge comprehended the order of God thereby comprehending the motion of all things, by God, through God, and of God from eternity to eternity; there were those who had great understanding of truths and the faith of God whereby all things before God are created and framed wherein they are obedient unto the laws of God that have created them and framed them; and these truths are learned by them at the presence of the all-knowing God of heaven and earth, and by him, not a thing is left unnoticed, even the very hair of every son or daughter is numbered before him, thus it is and it will be forever and ever, for this is the essence of being from eternity to eternity, all knowing being through all things, and only, that which is pure light and eternal truth can comprehend such a God.
Wherefore, whatsoever principle of intelligence we unto attain in this life, or in other words, whatsoever principle of intelligence we attained unto in the pre-mortal life and unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection, even the first resurrection. And if a spiritual off-spring of God attains more knowledge and intelligence in his life through his diligence and obedience than another off-spring of God, he will have so much more the advantage in the world to come. Thus, there is a law irrevocably decreed in heaven, even, the pre-mortal life, before the foundation of this world, upon which all blessings, promises, and covenants are predicated - when, we, in mortal body, obtain any blessings from God, it is by obedience to the law upon which it is predicated.
Of all the noble spiritual off-spring, they who manifested greater knowledge and greater understanding having greater faith and greater works of Heavenly Father, there stood One, the Greatest of all his spiritual off-spring, his Only Begotten Son to be, the Firstborn of all creation, the Son of Righteousness, the Great Sacrifice and only sacrifice for truth and righteousness of his children to come forth, the Framer of heaven and earth, the Father of all creation including the mortal children to come, the Son of the Most High God who should complete all the works of the Father in heaven and earth, the Father of Adam with whom he walked in the garden of Eden, the God of Enoch, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph wherein much was accomplished in his name unto preparation and acceptance of a pure people with a pure language, a city of Zion, the one taken into the bosom of God and to be returned, Mediator of the covenant of God unto all his faithful and righteous spiritual children, and in Him is all understanding like unto the Father that He comprehendeth all things and unto Him is all things, earthly and heavenly, subjugated through the eternal order of Gods, for in Him and through Him is God the Father glorified and eternally expanded.
He stood among all the spiritual off-springs of God and he came forth, like unto the Father blessed the seed to come in mortality, that, the will of the Father might be and which will would be in the earth as in heaven; he cried aloud: Abba - Abba Eloim Shitaa Ya' aash. In great humility and adoration, He knelt before God the Father, and all the noble and great spiritual children likewise knelt before the Father with gratitude and they were full of grace and truth that exceeded all truth before God. This pleased the Father and it was proclaimed by the angels in heaven glory be to the name of the Most High God and glory be given Him for ever and ever, as in heaven and on earth; wherein all heaven and earth shouted for joy wherein all of creation forward and rearward heard and bear record of this occasion. Concourses and concourses of angels blew their trumps in this time and all creation for a moment stood still, in splendor and adoration of God the Father for his noble and great ones!
And the spirit of the Lord said unto me: These two facts do exist, there are more than one spirit, one being more intelligent than the others; yea, and there shall be one more intelligent than they: I am the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, thy God and thy Savior, I am more intelligent than they all. Thus, the spirit of the Lord telleth me that the Holy Ghost, an intelligence, a spirit off-spring of the Father was more intelligent than all they excepting the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; herein is truth eternal that the Holy Ghost like unto Christ is ordained to represent the Christ and the Father; wherefore, the Holy Ghost in a time heretofore, sat upon his throne, clothed with power and authority given to him of God the Father; with a crown of eternal light upon his head, which crown represents the grand key-words, which words cometh of the book of Commandments, of the holy Priesthood, as revealed to all high priests of God ordained before the world wast; in this manner, they perform the oaths and covenants of the priesthood unto completion of the will of the Father in the earth.
The vision opened unto me again, and I saw the spirit off-spring of God that chose evil over righteousness of God, and they sought to become a law unto themselves, accordingly, they rebelled against our God, who is the Savior, the Holy Ghost, and the Father.
I was troubled to find that even before God, there were those who were offended by the obedience of the righteousness in the few before God; I heard the spirit of the Lord tell me: These are they who have lost their agency unto God, having given their loyalty to the son of the morning, Lucifer, the light bearer, yea, and this one shall be a dying light unto God and they who shall follow him. For this reason are they offended because they have little to no light in them, and they scoot before the light of dawn, wherein a plan was laid, to hide themselves from the omnipotence of the Father. These are they who have not the love of the Father in them for there is no darkness in God, and they have no place to hide themselves in shame for being discovered as a dark spirit matter. These were innumerable, even, like unto the stars in the heaven; and in the world to come, they shall war against the elect of God to destroy them, that the work of the Father may not come to pass. These are they that shall not have a first estate given them, but they shall walk the earth in bondage unto man and they shall forever fear the destruction that shall come their way, and they shall not escape.
While I beheld these mournful spirits who had elected to follow Lucifer, the spirit of the Lord told me: These are the sons of Perdition, for Lucifer is their father; they denied the Son after the Father had revealed him unto them; yea, the Savior shall not save them but they shall go into an endless punishment, which punishment, they received from before the foundation of this world, which punishment requires no repentance in the world to come neither is a grace period given unto them in flesh, but their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched, which thing is their torment. Immediately, as I pondered upon this thing, the vision of this torment was shut up, but I did know that their assignment is an ordination by God the Father unto this condemnation for their open rebellion in his presence wherein they are not forgiven, no, not ever! And I did write what I was commanded, and not all things because it is God's will I am given this glimpse of the ungodly, for some it is given to know in full or in part, but to others it is not given, nor shall they know, except they are made partakers thereof.
The vision opened unto me again, and I was in the second quarter of the night; the spirit of the Lord speaking unto me said: Blessed are ye as Nephi of old, thy father, who with this understanding was given the knowledge and understanding that I am about to reveal unto you concerning the Holy Ghost; yea, speaking in the language of God, I say unto you: in the pre-mortal existence, the Holy Ghost was second to the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, wherein all faith and truth proceeds from him, emulating his elder brother in all righteousness. All the godly attributes previously given thee for thy understanding was given of the Father, a fulness of attribute like unto his Son, and likewise, also given of The Father to the Holy Ghost; the typifying of the Son for he knew all things, and in similar godliness of knowledge and understanding was vested of the Holy Ghost, that a godly election was made with the a foreknowledge that cometh of the Father in such spiritual matters; for the Holy Ghost, much like John, the beloved of the Savior, offered to remain in spiritual form to guide man through all the trials of this world, even that he should watch over the elect of God as a spiritual personage, for him who is ordained for mighty works, that he should be a spiritual guide and provide spiritual manifestation, preparing man for spiritual understanding, for all times on the earth until the end of man in flesh. And this same inherit promise was given to the Three Nephites by the Savior in olden times, and they still to this day, are among us, excepting they are in body mortal, but changed.
And this the Holy Ghost did when all the elect spiritual off-spring shouted for joy that they would receive a physical or mortal body on the earth to become like God the Father; yea, he desired to remain in spiritual form working with mortal man, bringing to pass much righteousness for he testified of the Father and the Son, for the purpose for the which all this was done. It is given by the power and authority of God, if the noble and great ones desire, they can pray unto Heavenly Father, and they truly can manifest themselves unto any righteous men of God; these are they whom are prepared of the Holy Ghost, they who do the will of God the Father in commitment and completion of the promises and covenants made in heaven to move forward the work of God in righteousness; thus, it is given unto them that the Holy Ghost bears record of the Son and the Father of what is written in the book of Commandments concerning what hath been proposed and committed in the name of God unto those who shall keep their first estate spoken of.
Thus, I may say, that the vision given unto Joseph Smith, the prophet, in the Doctrine and Covenant, was given unto me to understand more fully, but to comprehend the purpose of the Holy Ghost unto those with a preparatory redemption, they unto whom it is given even a first inheritance with a land consecrated for such like unto Adam, and unto whom it is reaffirmed that in keeping their first estate, they shall return unto the land of the first inheritance to receive an inheritance in the land of the city of the New Jerusalem, in a time to come. This was clearly expounded upon by the revelation given unto Alma in the land of Helam, as he also petitioned concerning this thing. For it is revealed to those who seek to understand in full the workings of the Lord, that, if at all possible, they are given glimpses of this truth to assist them in completing their tasks given unto them of God, and such tasks are inspired by revelation by the Holy Ghost that they might attain the understanding and knowledge requisite of God; thus it is and thus it will be.
Then the spirit of the Lord saith: It came to pass that under the authority and power of the Father, he gave unto his Son and the Holy Ghost to gather the most noble of all his spiritual off-springs to move heaven to create an earth where upon all these should dwell; and some of these great ones were in godly authority having achieved this level of intelligence, having overcome all evil and having great faith requisite to call forth the creation, unto which all spiritual matter responded, and thus they did for a period of seven days as it is written. Accordingly, for completion of this work and the manifestation of this creation and great works and faith demonstrated, the Son of all Righteousness came unto his Father and by grace and mercy asked the Father, unto these which thou hast given unto me, I shall not lose one in the earth, but, by thy will and foreknowledge of them, shall thy will be done, even in heaven as it shall be in the earth; wherefore, Father, I shall impart unto them a redemption for such, even a preparatory redemption I give by thy grace and righteousness, these shall have power given them from thee that they shall inherit their first estate which thou hast prepared for them. Thus it was and will be unto the end of man in mortality, but a greater inheritance shall be given them in the mansion of their Father when all shall be given their just rewards for the work they shall have done.
In days before, angels came and declared unto the sons of God saying: Thus saith the Lord God: I dwelt in the midst of them all; I now, therefore, have come down unto thee to declare unto thee the works which my hands have made, wherein my wisdom excelleth them all, for I rule in the heavens above, and in the earth beneath, in all wisdom and prudence, over all the intelligences thine eyes have seen in the beginning; I came down in the beginning in the midst of all the intelligences thou hast seen.
Yea, even my father Abraham exclaimed with great joy and elation: "Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones; and God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good, and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born. And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those that were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will make of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell."
The spirit of the Lord said unto me: These shall I make my leaders, and they shall prophesy concerning the things which are written in the book of Commandments, and they shall make understood the truths and knowledge given as was in the beginning, and they shall do the will of my Father in the earth and those things shall be committed unto heaven, and they shall do much righteousness in my name, proclaiming obedience to that end and bringing about all commitments, promises and covenants as was in the beginning.
As Alma said in the revelation given unto him by the power of the Holy Ghost: "… and I would that ye should remember that the Lord God ordained priests, after his holy order, which was after the order of the Son, to teach these things unto the people. And those priests were ordained after the order of his Son, in a manner that thereby the people might know in what manner to look forward to his Son for redemption. And this is the manner after which they were ordained - being called and prepared from the foundation of the world according to the foreknowledge of God, on account of their exceeding faith and good works; in the first place being left to choose good or evil; therefore they having chosen good, and exercising exceedingly great faith, are called with a holy calling, yea, with that holy calling which was prepared with, and according to, a preparatory redemption for such. And they having been called to this holy calling on account of their faith, while others would reject the Spirit of God [Holy Ghost] on account of the hardness of their hearts and blindness of their minds, while, if it had not been for this they might have had as great privilege as their brethren. Or in fine, in the first place they were on the same standing with their brethren; thus this holy calling being prepared from the foundation of this world for such as would not harden their hearts, being in and through the atonement of the Only Begotten Son, who was prepared - and thus being called by this holy calling and ordained unto the high priesthood of the holy order of God; to teach his commandments unto the children of men, that they might also enter into his rest - This high priesthood being after the order of his Son, which order was from the foundation of the world; or in other words, being without beginning of days or end of years, being prepared from eternity to eternity, according to his foreknowledge of all things - now they were ordained after this manner - being called with a holy calling, and ordained with a holy ordinance, and taking upon them the high priesthood of the holy order, which calling, and ordinance, and high priesthood, is without beginning or end - they become high priests forever, after the order of the Son, the Only Begotten of the Father, who is without beginning of days or end of years, who is full of grace and truth. And thus it is. Amen."
Then the spirit of the Lord saith unto me: In the days to come, in the day of the Lord wherein his people shall be recovered a second time, all things shall be rolled together as if it were a scroll unto the Father, and in that day when such things are done as is written in holy writ, shall the Holy Ghost receive a body of flesh and bones, and for a period of time shall dwell among men, even in a day when righteousness is attained and men of God, yea, the sons of God shall be pure and righteous before God, and they shall say that Jesus is our God, for he is the Father of heaven and earth; then shall the mission of the Holy Ghost be complete for the work of God shall be complete, and all things shall be recorded and written into the book of Commandment and sealed into the book of Life.
The spirit of the Lord saith: As I said before, the remnant of the house of Joseph, and being more precise in what I tell thee, the seed of Nephi shall build upon this land which is before thee in preparation for a time to come, and they shall build the house of the Lord and great shall be that day, and the Lord shall suddenly come to his temple to instruct his people in what they should do; then, shall the time come when the remnant of Joseph shall build unto him a holy city and it shall be called the New Jerusalem. Yea, and there shall be a new heaven and a new earth; and it shall be like unto the old save it shall have passed away, and all things have become new, and that old serpent shall not have power any more among the sons of God. Then shall come the New Jerusalem; and blessed are they who dwell therein, for it is they whose garments are white through the blood of the Lamb; and they are they who are numbered among the remnant of the seed of Joseph, who were of the house of Israel. In that day, when all things have become new and the Father and the Son shall dwell among the sons of God, then there shall not be a need for the Holy Ghost, for the people shall be comforted by the Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessed is that day, then, shall the Holy Ghost dwell among the sons of God, in a body of flesh and bones, confirming all that has been said by them of old and what is that shall come to the end of man in the flesh. Blessed are the people of God for the Father and the Son shall be among them, and the Holy Ghost shall be there also. And, all things unknown shall be revealed and there shall be none mystery hidden to the sons of God, for all things shall be revealed unto them that ever were and that ever shall be. Amen.
